Great Meadow, host to the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races, is a world class
international polo field that has been described as one of the best playing surfaces
between New York and Aiken. Great Meadow Polo Club has over 75 playing members,
making it one of the largest in the region.
During the summer more than 20,000 fans - young professionals as well as families --
gather at Great Meadow with tailgates and picnics to watch the Twilight Polo program.
Two matches are held every Saturday night beginning at 7:00 P.M. (gates open at 6:30
P.M) until mid-September. Stay after the polo matches for moonlight music and dancing.
Tickets at the gate: $30 per carload

On the lawn of the Warren Green Building, located at 10 Hotel Street in Old Town
Warrenton. On Saturday evenings throughout the summer, families, neighbors and visitors
gather for outdoor Bluemont concerts in Old Town Warrenton. Audiences enjoy
world-class jazz, bluegrass, Celtic music, rock, rhythm and blues, zydeco, African
dance, folk music and more.
Many people bring picnics to enjoy during the show. People of all ages are welcome.
All Bluemont concerts are smoke-free and alcohol is prohibited. Pets are not allowed
in the concert areas. Cost: $5 adults; $4 Bluemont Friends & Seniors; $2 kids under 12

Meet the Beekeepers: National Honey Bee Day

The bees are buzzing at Sky Meadows State Park! Meet our beekeepers Doug & Ramona
Morris and the Beekeepers of Northern Shenandoah as they perform a honey extraction.
Learn all about beekeeping, honeybees and the Art of Apiculture. Support beekeeping
and the Beekeepers of Northern Shenandoah by purchasing local honey from club
members. Stop in to the Log Kitchen and get a sample of one of our signature honey
dishes.  In honor of National Honeybee Day, we'll be cooking up a variety of recipes
featuring honey.  Learn about the ins and outs of hearth cooking and pick up copies of
historic recipes.
How did people light their homes in the days before electricity?  Join a park ranger for
a discussion of the tools and techniques used by Colonial settlers to produce candles
for their homes.  Then try your hand at making your own beeswax candles to take
with you and light your own home.  This is a free program, open to all ages.
No bumbling around here!  Learn about the journey that bees undertake and the
perils they encounter while pollinating flowers to ensure a bountiful harvest.

The Flying Circus Airfield....... All day
Rt. 17 and Rt. 644 (Ritchie Road), Bealeton
Balloon activities will be held both morning and afternoon with the World Famous
Flying Circus Airshow being presented each afternoon at 2:30. Balloons will be
launched in the early morning (6-7am) and late afternoon (5-7pm). Take an air
balloon ride, or just sit back and enjoy the view.

115th Annual Warrenton Horse Show

Horse Show Grounds, Warrenton..... The Horse Show Grounds open at 8:00am
60 E. Shirley Avenue, Warrenton, VA
Drawing many local and out of state exhibitors, this show remains to be a popular event
over the Labor Day weekend. Some exciting features of the show include, Hunter classes,
Ladies Side Saddle, Leadline, and Walk-Trot for children.Saturday features the
Thoroughbred and Non-Thoroughbred Hunter Breeding and the USEF National
Breeding Championship, for yearlings, two year olds, and three year olds.Saturday
night will host the $5,000 Hunter Classic sponsored by Warrenton/Miller Toyota and
Sunday will present the foxhunter classes, and Side Saddle.
This years Show will benefit Head Start & Bright Stars, The Fauquier SPCA,
The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and The Fauquier County Fire and Rescue Association.
The show begins at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and at 8:00 am each other day, with
evening classes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 per person, which
can be purchased at the gate, and children 12 and under are free. There will be food

The Virginia Scottish Games and Festival will again be held at Great Meadow Events Center
in The Plains. The rolling pastures of the Great Meadow landscape are reminiscent of the Old World that so many of Virginia's first families left behind when they traveled to the colonies.
Festival highlights include: highland athletic and dance competitions, piping competitions
culminating in a massed pipe band performance, Scottish country dancing, clans,
living history encampment, fiddling events, Scottish dog events, children's games,
musical performances, British car show and a variety of food and craft vendors.

solo exhibit by acclaimed regional artist Donna Clark.  “I paint in series - images that are
not place specific.  I consider them personal dreamlike mindscapes of imagined locations
in my natural world.”  The public is invited to an opening reception on Sunday,
September 7, 5:00 - 7:00 pm.  In addition, Clark will demonstrate her distinctive painting
technique on September 14 at 2:00 PM.  This is a great opportunity to watch her paint and
