The Virginia Gold Cup is a grand spring tradition as welll as a fixture on the
social calendar. Run in Fauquier County since 1922 and attended by over 45,000
spectators, this race is one of the largest and most popular sporting events in the

A Forum: Understanding Enslaved Populations at Chapman's Mill

Afternoon: Chapman/Beverley Mill, 17504 Beverley Mill Road, Broad Run, VA
The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and feature presentations on the history of The Mill,
research on slave labor at mill sites and the ongoing archaeological research at Chapman/
Beverley Mill. Learn about how the enslaved community at Chapman’s Mill lived and worked
for nearly 100 years before the Civil War. Find out the identities of these enslaved workers.
Participate in archaeological research on site. Following the morning session, attendees
will visit the Chapman/ Beverley Mill Historic Site at Thoroughfare Gap and see archaeologists
at work, uncovering what may be the original slave quarters. Attendees will tour The Mill and
related 18th – 19th century Chapman family sites. Presenters will share stories of The Gap.
A light lunch will be available. There is a $10.00 charge for the day’s program ($8.00 for

The Drowsy Chaperone in the Addison Lightfoot Auditorium. The cast of 32 and

The Drowsy Chaperone
opened on Broadway in 2006 and was originally intended
as a spoof of old musicals. The show went on to win five Tony Awards and had major
productions in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Japan. In The Drowsy Chaperone,
a Broadway musical fan spends his free time listening to LP recordings of old 1920s
and 30s musicals. Suddenly, one night, one of his favorites comes to life in his apartment.

Great Meadow, host to the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races, is a world class
international polo field that has been described as one of the best playing surfaces
between New York and Aiken. Great Meadow Polo Club has over 75 playing members,
making it one of the largest in the region.
During the summer more than 20,000 fans - young professionals as well as families --
gather at Great Meadow with tailgates and picnics to watch the Twilight Polo program.
Two matches are held every Saturday night beginning at 7:00 P.M. (gates open at 6:30
P.M) until mid-September. Stay after the polo matches for moonlight music and dancing.
