Upperville is the oldest horse show in the United States. Steeped in tradition,
it extends a full seven days, and involves over two thousand horse and rider
combinations from young children on ponies to leading Olympic and World
Cup riders and horses. Held under The Oaks, in Upperville, Virginia, the
showgrounds are located forty miles west of Washington, D.C. in the rolling
hills of Virginia's scenic horse country.
The magnificent and prestigious Grafton and Salem Farms encompass

Great Meadow, host to the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races, is a world class
international polo field that has been described as one of the best playing surfaces
between New York and Aiken. Great Meadow Polo Club has over 75 playing members,
making it one of the largest in the region.
During the summer more than 20,000 fans - young professionals as well as families --
gather at Great Meadow with tailgates and picnics to watch the Twilight Polo program.
Two matches are held every Saturday night beginning at 7:00 P.M.(gates open at 6:30
P.M) until September 13, 2008 and many stay after the games to enjoy moonlight
dancing to the music of a DJ.
New in 2008: Enjoy the a sampling of the region's best food from Market Salamander

Fauquier and Loudoun Counties......
Volunteer or ride with nearly 1,000 participants in the National MS Society, National
Capital Chapter's annual Bike MS event on June 6 and 7, 2009. Cyclists will begin
and end in Middleburg, with routes through Loudoun and Fauquier Counties. 
Volunteers can help with check in, host a rest stop, set up a site or cheer on participants.
Cyclists can choose one of several mileage options along our challenging new route.

2nd Annual Mosby's Rangers Descendant Reunion

This event is part of the year-long celebration of Fauquier County's 250th Anniversary!
What better way to recognize part of Fauquier's heritage, than to recognize the
descendants of Mosby's Rangers and Col. John S. Mosby. The day will begin with coffee
and conversation, followed by a program with speakers, interpretattions and reognition
of descendants. The program will be followed by lunch and a band concert. Noted
authors and historians of Mosby and his Rangers will be available to sell and sign
their books.
During the afternoon we invite participants to visit area historic sites, take a self-guided
tour of the Mosby Heritage Area using one of its driving tours or scavenger hunts. The
day will end with the Mosby Heritage Area's very popular, Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee
from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. The Grey Ghos Interpretive Group will tell stories of the Civil War
in this area, especially Mosby Ranger stories, in period dress by lantern light.

On designated Saturday evenings throughout the year, members of the Grey Ghost
Interpretive Group don period dress and take on the persona of an 19th century
resident of the Mosby Heritage Area to tell the story of what life was like in that era,
especially during the Civil War.   They give voice to the Northern soldier far from home,
members of Col. John S. Mosby’s 43rd battalion, women caught in the middle of war-torn
Virginia, African-American slaves, and farmers struggling to survive the economic perils
of the times. Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee is a family-oriented program which is
presented in small vignettes by Grey Ghost Interpretive Group members as the
audience moves around the village of Atoka by lantern light.
