The Virginia Gold Cup is a grand spring tradition as welll as a fixture on the
social calendar. Run in Fauquier County since 1922 and attended by over 45,000
spectators, this race is one of the largest and most popular sporting events in the
greater Washington metropolitan area. Race day features seven hurdle and timber
horses races, Jack Russell Terrier races, tent, tailgate and hat contest, a parachute
demonstration, and over 30 vendor booths for shopping. $

Astronomy for Everyone

As the sky darkens, find out about U.S. space research from the NASA Jet Propulsion
Lab’s “Solar System Ambassadors.”  At dark, take a sky tour with Sean O’Brien of the
Smithsonian’s Albert Einstein Planetarium, and look for deep sky objects through
large telescopes with the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club.  If the sky is cloudy,
only the NASA/JPL program will be presented, and the park gates will close at
10:00 PM.  Bring your children ½ hour early for a special “Junior Astronomer” activity.
